New year, new hopes and dreams, same ol’ pain and fatigue.
I’m not big on the whole New Year’s Eve celebration, but I do take stock at the end of each year. Last year was a new low for my health, but some good things did happen. In the last couple of months of 2017 things started to look up.
The local health services decided I’m entitled to some help in the home. I now have an assistant coming to me once a week for 4 hours, and a cleaner every other week for 2 hours. (There were no extra spoons for Christmas.) I’m also getting help with my economy and possibilities for the future, such as they are, regarding sickness benefits. This helps a lot!
I’m hoping that in the long run I’ll be able to save up a few spoons because of the help I’m getting, and maybe even cut back on the painkillers.
Some of the things I want to spend my spoons on in 2018
- Friends and family
- Pets and fosters
- Reading, gaming, blogging
- Fresh air and nature
- Yoga and weight training
I’d really like to set some specific goals, but the way my health is right now that’s not very wise. I’m just disappointed when it turns out I can’t reach them. Instead, I make a list every day of the things I have managed to do. Some days all I manage is reading in bed, other days I might go grocery shopping or on some other adventure. It helps to be content with the things I manage.
